The Swedish island in the Caribbean
The Island Saint Barthélemy (aka St Barths) was a Swedish colony in the Caribbean for nearly a hundred years (1784–1878). The colony's capital Gustavia was an important port and the Swedish enslaved population peaked at around 4000 people. On this website, the Swedish Caribbean Colonialism project has reconstituted geographically dispersed archives, making it possible for the first time to create an overall picture of Swedish colonial history in the Caribbean.
